About Gene

I imagined myself making a website with a somewhat serious, professional-looking photo of myself. But when I saw this photo, my heart pushed me to choose a photo that more closely exemplifies the kind of man I am.

I am blessed more than I deserve. I have one hell of a wife. Ambitious. Creative. Oriented towards goodness. Loyal. Beautiful. A better wife than I could have ever hoped for.

My daughter is absolutely precious. She wins every staring contest. And I can’t help but constantly be laughing and smiling with her as she mischievously gets into my things and chucks water all over the floor. I gave up my smartphone so I could spend more time being present with her.

I am a minimalist. I don’t like having more than I need, and sometimes stick with inconvenience just to remind myself that convenience is not the path to joy, like holding onto a semi-broken dishwasher where we have to throw the pod in mid-cycle. Instead, I try to practice peace of mind in the midst of inconvenience.

What I chase instead is God and everything good about this life. I see my roles as a husband and father as opportunities to grow my love, heart, and patience. To try to love my family with the humblest, unconditional love I can muster. And I try to learn from all of the times I catch myself being unloving or holding tight to my ego.

My life’s calling is to love and to guide. To shepherd men to a deeper, more profound level of love. I love and support women as well, but my heart has a particular desire to transform the view and reputation of men. I used to have some level of embarrassment of men and being a man. But I’ve come to believe that the immature decisions of many men do not paint a picture of who men truly are. It is time for men to step into their greatness.
